Well you’re not going to look for a mailing list promoting the same product as you, just something in the same general niche. Your onsite SEO as well as anchor text you build will be what targets the long tail keyword.

I have a question, however: Using your autoblogging method, won’t the blog end up being plastered with someone else’s hoplinks to products?

In the mailing-list mails, you tend to get the senders hoplink every few paragraphs…
